Heathrow Protestors Taking Lessons from Second Life

Interesting to see that the protestors of the building of a third runway at Heathrow are aping the strategies used in Second Life. By buying up property that would be required to build the new runway, taxiways, terminals and transport links (which makes it sound remarkably like a new airport altogether, just as BAA is being forced to sell other airports), and then splitting that property up into tiny lots that are sold to individuals, the goal must be to make the process of acquiring the land as hard as possible. This sounds like the strategy used by many unscrupulous

When Crayon’s Arent Enough… CC Chapman Moves Up To Digital Ink

Way back when I did the occasional joint music podcast with CC Chapman – the Accident Mash at TPN Rock – we left the tape running when he received a mystery package. That turned out to be his pension and benefits package from Crayon, the Digital Marketing Agency focussed on Second Life. Along with Joseph Jaffe, Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson, CC was one of the visible names at the in-world launch, and was effectively their point man in the blogosphere; more than paying back their investment in him with goodwill, word of mouth, and positive press (plus he’s got

BBC World Service – Second Life Discussion

A quick heads up for those watching the feed, I’ll be on the BBC World Service’s World Have Your Say at 1800 GMT this evening. I’ll be discussing Second Life (along with, I believe, Nicole Simon), and I understand you can phone in to the program to join the discussion. Postscript: Well that was interesting – rather than featured speakers it was more akin to a regular phone in talk show, but they’ve set up a huge number of the callers in the ‘for’ argument (including myself) for their two minutes on air. So everything I was told I would

Crayon’s Launch Event

Okay that was both illuminating, right at the bleeding edge of tech, and just a little bit of geek looking into the future. This evening (UK time) I attended the launch of Crayon, the New Marketing company. What was different? Well, the launch event was on their island in Second Life – which is fitting given that their Head Office is in Second Life. Put simply, they’re walking the walk. Want to market in SL? Then you go to the company that is based, runs and hangs out in their specially converted diner in SL. I wonder where they pay

Reuters Enters Second Life

Forty of Fifty years ago a news agency setting up a bureau in a distant country would have been newsworthy. Whic is why Reuters setting up a Second Life Bureau is excting. Sure there may be other virtual worlds and environments out there, but Second Life is really getting the PR traction now, which can only help. Now if only the can work out a way to not have to pull down the entire grid every time they need to update the software and all will be fine.
