Apple Announce Firmware Updates for iPhone, Crowd Go Wild

If you want a better illustration of the ‘Apple Effect,’ then look no further than Apple’s latest iPhone statement to pump up the fanboys into a frenzy. In short, the iPhone and Apple TV will be able to update their firmware over the air. While this has been a relativly new feature on Nokia and Sony Ericsson (on the order of a year or so) I’m amazed yet agaoin at how Apple spin standards to make them the market leader.

We Can Work It Out, Can’t We? 5 years of iPod Piracy.

So there’s a whole bunlde of fanwank on the net today because it’s the ‘five year’ anniversary of Apple’s iPod. And I have to say, watching the presentation where it came out, it wouldn’t have made me jump up to get it then (or now). When you tout 10 hours battery life, and five years latter you’re touting, erhm, 10 hours battery life, there’s not a lot to get excited about. What I did like though was the CD collection (85 CD’s) used to represent the 5gb iPod’s capabilities. Here’s a corner of it… That;’s right, even then the big

Apple Keynote Thoughts

Might as well write something – everyone esle does. Quite frankly nothing stunned me. Okay so they’re doing some new laptops and desktops that have a different CPU – which is driving the freaks crazy with glee but given that the end goal is for something that will do the same for the end user now, it’s purely a performance bumper. The iPod numebrs were a bit more interesting, and as always the headline number seems to have been shown with a little bit of magical distraction. 32 million of any device is a good

ITMS Forum For Podcaster Problems

Previously I‘ve complained about the lack of response from Apple regarding podcasts and their inclusion (or lack thereof) in hte iTunes Music (Video and Podcast) Store. Brian DeWitt (from AMP) has pointed out this forum on the Apple Support Pages for you to post your problems. Hopefully it’s monitiored and if your cast is having trouble, it’ll be picked up and sorted after an appearance here.

Motorola and the Apple iPod Phone. Is This, Actually, A Good Idea?

So the Motorola/Apple iPod Phone is coming next week, and the speculation on the next (and the occassional dissenting voice) are all being picked up and spun – as is the way of the www. It’s nice to know that likes like The Register are watching over this blog, and even nicer that my thoughts on Apple and the relationship with the networks are worthy of linkage. In amongst the dozens of speculative stories circulating, there seems to be no scepticism (well, apart from Ewan Spence) at all about whether a combined phone/mp3 device is, actually, a good idea.
