Why do developers still need ‘Windows Phone 101’ at a Unity session?

Windows Phone launched in October 2010. Windows Phone 8 launched in October 2012, arguably with a similar UI experience. Given those time-frames, I’m astonished that Microsoft felt the need to spend twenty minutes during their presentation the Unity 2013 Developer Conference explaining what live tiles are, the integration in the People hub, and using ‘Kids Corner’. Assuming that the audience has no experience at all of Windows Phone probably says the wrong thing about the platform to the audience.

Leveraging the Xbox One and Windows Phone

I’ve been doing some idle speculating over on All About Windows Phone: Almost everyone expects Microsoft to talk more about the integration between Windows Phone’s gaming features and the new Xbox One consoleĀ at the upcoming E3 trade show in June. There is also a long-standing rumour that Microsoft are working on their own smartphone, the so-called Surface Phone. So what could these handset theoretically be used for? Don’t believe Windows Phone 8, it doesn’t do back-ups

One of my pieces on All About Windows Phone: Windows Phone 8 does not back-up your device. It backs up a list of your applications and the global settings in your phone. Social network accounts tied into the People Hub are synced with your Live account, so they can be easily restored (including the address book and calendars), but that’s about it. Putting a Windows Phone back to the condition it was before a reset is nigh-on impossible. In this day and age, am I wrong in thinking that this is unacceptable? Or does the fact that the restore does
