My second batch of Companies at Travelling Geeks

Following on from part one, this is the nest look back at the Travelling Geeks tour of Paris pre-Le Web. Here are some more companies that caught my eye and a few thoughts on how things should be in the real world. Teacheo www.teacheo.com One of the interesting things about companies that are pure internet plays (as opposed to those with bits of hardware or bricks and mortar behind the html) is that just because an idea has already been done is no barrier to entry. Teacheo, which promises to pair up students and potential tutors online, and then facilitate

It’s Eurovision Week – in a junior sort of way

It’s time for the annual shot of methadone for addicts of the Eurovision Song Contest… yes it’s time for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest! Set roughly between the grown-ups version, Junior Eurovision (JESC) sees children between the ages of 12 and 15 representing their country by performing songs they have written themselves to an international audience.   Knowing the UK readers of this blog, I’m sure it won’t be long before someone pops up and mentions Minipops, but I’ll point to Hollie Steel if we get into an argument… deal? Using Twitter Lists to tag myself

One of the interesting by-products of Twitter Lists is seeing what lists people have put me under, and thus how this small but vocal section of the internet thinks of me. It shouldn’t be any surprise that I feature on a number of lists about smartphones and mobile technology, such as SOS100’s Wireless and Mobile list, Shadamehr’s Nokia Related list or various generic ‘tech’ lists. Given my use of Twitter and other Social Media tools The Dull Figs Social Media Tech list is also expected (see also Jerome A’s Tech list). Podcasting is also there, with Rob Usdin’s Podcasters list

Sidestepping to my new Twitter home

The short blog post is if you are already following me on Twitter, then you don’t need to do anything. The longer blog post is that after a long and valiant struggle (err, hanging around the internet till I used the irl.api and bumped into the right person at Las Vegas), my Twitter name is now @ewan. If you were following me when I was @ewanspence then you’ll automatically be following my new shorter name. Only if you were using some weird system that checks my username, or have me linked from a biography site,  will you need to do

Go Drew (Carey) and Drew (Olanoff)

I’m sure that digital archaeologists in years to come will come to the conclusion that Drew is Patient Zero and that he was the cause of the world’s cancer, but until then he’s doing his best to raise the profile of “positive mental attitude” and raise a bucket load of money. The latest scheme is to auction his twitter name @Drew. Four letter names are pretty much gone on Twitter, and his thinking that there are enough Drews out there in celebrity world that he could get a lot of money for the screen name – which would go to
