Old Time Podcasters, The Playstation Show, and the evolving Vita Voices.

Back in 2006 I started another podcast, The Playstation Show, which would be a short weekly podcast on the Sony Playstation Portable. It slowed down a bit in 2011, but never really went away. With the PS Vita on the way, I decided in January that it needed to be brought “up to the boil” for the year (and in the process helping me keep abreast of the portable gaming world – all the more important as it becomes an interesting battleground in the smartphone world). The show got a little bit of a rethink, moving away from a news-bulletin

How long until one company owns every bit of mainstream music?

Music publisher BMG are ready to bid for music publisher EMI. Music publisher Warner are likely to pitch in as well, while music publisher Sony and music publisher Universal won’t sit on the dock of the bay either. It might be worth a few billion here and there to Microsoft to bring Sony more fully back into the fold. (See also: Nokia.) This is likely to be #qtwtain ("questions to which the answer is no") but with rising development

Sometimes you can give a Playstation too much protection

The thing about Sony being hacked because, in their words, "[they] tried to protect its intellectual property" is that their protection methods were draconian, allowed no homebrew code to run on their machine, banned out-of-region sellers from selling games (famously closing down Lik Sang, thus depriving me of an official supplier of Japanese games such as the Densha De Go series for my European PSP), forced firmware updates, don’t allow you to transfer a UMD disc based game into a digital download… …or they’ve not confirmed a Monster Hunter Portable version for the PSP Vita. You choose.
