SXSW 2011 Thoughts: Interactive

There’s no getting away from the big issue of this year’s South by Southwest Interactive was the size of the conference. With close to 20,000 attendees, all the official hotels sold out (something that Interactive has managed that the Music Festival hasn’t), and multiple hotels around the city of Austin holding conference sessions throughout the day, there is no doubt that SXSW Interactive is just mind-bogglingly huge. Was it worthwhile? That’s always tough, because everyone is going to go to Interactive wanting to get different things out of SXSW. This year I was doing a mix of reporting what was

SXSW Interactive Social Breakfast – 2010 Edition

As South by Southwest looms on the events horizon, all the little bits and pieces of other smaller parties and get together that are happening in Austin pop up. The Social Breakfast is my contribution to the calendar of SXSW Interactive. This year is the third official year of the breakfast, and as always the premise is very simple. Just as in previous years the

SXSW Interactive Preview Podcast, with Hugh Forrest

Second preview for SXSW, this time looking at Interactive with Hugh Forrest. Lots of ground to cover in this episode, including how late can the plans change; does panel picker promote diversity at SXSW interactive; deciding on the keynote speakers and inviting people back to speak again; the party scene; and the growth of SXSW. SXSW 2009 And Why I’m Going to All Three Conferences

There isn’t a huge amount of doubt, but I’ve got enough dominoes lined up to say with confidence that I’ll be at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, running from March 13th to the 22nd. SXSW is of course three festivals, an Interactive festival, a Film festival, and a Music festival… which pretty much hits every base that I like to talk about and get involved with. For the third year running, I’ll be attending all three conferences; and counting the number of times that “why don’t the Music industry listen to us” said at Interactive is balanced by “why
