A Betting Guide To The Eurovision Song Contest

First of all, thank you all very much for your support on my upcoming trip to Russia and the coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. I honestly thought there would be more detractors but it seems that by putting not only y head, but the entire potential of Web 2.0 reporting tools above the parapet has brought out the secret vein of “we love Eurovision” that I knew had to exist in the UK. Away from the view of the mainstream media, we all have a soft spot for the international competition. Right then, as I said yesterday, I’ll be

Liveblog: UK Eurovision, Your Country Needs You (ep 5)

It’s time for the grand final of the UK nationals to find out if Jade, Mark or The Twins will represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow, on May 16th. 1955: Time to put the Eurovision Liveblog tools away – until May, until Moscow. 1954: I’m sure I’ll have a full blog post on this in a few hours or so. Stay on the site, watch me on Twitter, or just subscribe to the RSS Feed. 1953: Jade or Mark would have been my choice going into the show tonight. Hearing the song and seeing the

A Big Weekend For UK Eurovision Fans

For those of you who don’t follow Eurovision, the last month of Eurovision on Saturday nights on the BBC must have felt weird – to use ESC-philles it’s been like a little oasis before May, and the main contest in Moscow. It’s all coming to a head this weekend, as the final show is tonight and either Mark, Jade or The Twins of Francine and Nicola will be chosen to represent the United Kingdom. Tonight we’ll hear the song by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren sung by the contestants, and it’s good to read that Lloyd Webber appears to

A big welcome to everyone from The Stage… feel free to leave your comments below, or find me on Twitter (@ewanspence) 1935: So we’ll have either Mark, Jade or The Twins will sing for the UK in Moscow. It will all be down to a public vote. We’ve been here before, with a perfect Eurovision act not sent by

Liveblog: UK Eurovision, Your Country Needs You (ep 3)

The national finals to find the singer for the United Kingdom’s entry into the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest airs tonight, and this is my liveblog of the show. Feel free to leave comments – but while the show is running you might be better responding to me via Twitter as well as the blog comments. 1940: And there we go. On balance a good result. The British public place one of the weakest acts in the bottom two, and Andrew Lloyd Webber doesn’t save her (Charlotte). Out of the four acts left, Emperors of Soul, Jade, Mark and The Twins,

Lloyd Webber Makes The Wrong Call for the UK’s Eurovision Hope

I’m still at a loss to explain away the final decision on Your Country Needs You, the United Kingdom’s national final to decide the act we shall be sending to Moscow and the Eurovision Song Contest in May. The public vote places two contestants in “The Danger Zone” (with not a shot of Kenny Loggins in site – have we finally found someone too cheesy for Eurovision in the Log-meister?), and Andrew Lloyd Webber decides which one to take through to next week, and which one to send away with just their BFH. Damian and Charlotte were up this week.
