Gmail on your Windows Phone

While Windows Phone 8 does work well with Gmail, I get the feeling that it still works on the IMAP model. MetroMail is a third-party client that provides a more Gmail focused inbox for WP users: While Windows Phone’s email application does handle Gmail in a way that fits in with the UI, there are some areas where it can be lacking (including label support, filtering, and multiple accounts). Does the third-party client MetroMail address these issues and, if so, is it worth Googlers switching to it? That’s a finely balanced decision. My full review is over on All About

“Two mobile companies, both alike in dignity, In fair Redmond and Espoo, where we lay our podcast”

[audio:http://feeds.soundcloud.com/stream/108699020-rafeblandford-aawp-insight-74-microsoft-and.mp3] The AAWP podcast spent all of yesterday’s show talking over the Microsoft/Nokia deal in some detail, with Rafe lending a lot of detail, numbers, and insight, while I focussed on the conspiracy theories, mad plans, and a bit of Shakespeare.

Come on you apes, you wanna live forever (with a Lumia)?

Halo finally reaches Windows Phone, and I’ve a monster review posted over on All About Windows Phone: It’s good. It’s bloody good. But there is room for improvement. The presentation, top down look, and slight 3D graphical look are all fine. The level design, small but perfect, works as well. I have a tiny issue with the control system, but it is easily played around. In that sense Halo works with no major compromises damaging the game. The lack of multiplayer is slightly upsetting, but not a huge mis-step in the grand scheme. The inclusion of freemium to try and

Where are all the apps for Windows Phone?

Specifically, apps when you visit tourist attractions, or a supermarket, or a motorway service station? Some discussion by myself on All About Windows Phone: There’s always been talk of Microsoft targeting developers and promoting their platform, and these can lead to small wins such as bringing over titles from other platforms one by one (Temple Run being an obvious example). Meanwhile, bringing in these big brand names to the Windows Phone platform should not be forgotten as well. Legoland Windsor is owned by Merlin Entertainments in the UK, which owns and runs a huge range of parks, including Alton Towers,

Reviewing Verizon’s Lumia 928

Over on All About Windows Phone this week, I’m reviewing Nokia’s Lumia 928 Windows Phone. Exclusivly available on Verizon at the moment, it’s arguably Nokia’s current flagship (for, ooh, at least two weeks) and photographers are going to love the Xenon flash. BUt there’s more to the handset than the lighting options: In terms of design, there is very little difference between the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 928. We’ll be carrying on looking at the Lumia 925 in depth here on All About Windows Phone, but having spent some time with the Lumia 928, I’m really enjoying the handset.

Six iOS based lessons for Windows Phone

Posted on All About Windows Phone: With the announcement of iOS 7 for developers at Apple’s WWDC, one of the rival mobile operating systems to Windows Phone steps forward with new ideas and presentations. But if you take a closer look at iOS, is there anything that stands out as a lesson that Windows Phone needs to learn? Here are six… Thoughts welcome!
