Free Drinks and Crap Tech Pitches This Week In San Francisco

Those of you in San Francisco this Tuesday (Sept 9th) might want to swing by the House of Shields (39 New Montgomery St) at 10pm, where Smack My Pitch Up is being held. Get enough VC’s, investors and entrepeneurs in town, you’ll get people pitching business ideas around like poor baseball pitches. ‘Smack’ is no different, but willbe looking for the most terrible ideas in tech possible. Prizes include a grand prize of $50 (in non-sequential, used single dollar bills). Bonus prizes will be available for best URL containing a pun (or a pub), most creative misuse of grammar and

Isn’t The Point To Not Be Your Own Story? (TechCrunch 50 and Demo)

Last night, as I was settling down to bed, news that the dates for the next Arrington/Calacanis Conference, TechCrunch{foo} (where {foo} is a variable number determined by the requirements of PR, it’s currently 50) came down the tubes. September 8-10. Oh that’s handy, I thought, because the Autumn CTIA is September 10-12, and BlogWorldExpo is September 19-21. Lots of little things are lining up for a trip. Dates placed in Filofax, didn’t think any more of it. Oh yes, those are the same dates as the Fall Demo conference. That’s a mighty big coincidence. But you would be a fool

Travelling to San Francisco, the UK-US Flight

So I’m safely wrapped up in a comfy duvet in San Francisco, after a rather good set of flights from Edinburgh (via London Gatwick and Dallas Fort Worth). It was on the ground at the transfers where all the fun was. 20 Become 40; TechCrunch20/40 Throws the Planning Out The Window

After a day on the web of scored out numbers and questions piling up in the comments, the team at TechCrunch 20 have posted the details of the change to the Conference and that they’ll now be showcasing 40 companies, as opposed to 20, and re-branding to TechCrunch 40. The official reason on the website is: …we decided that there were just too many strong start-ups to limit the conference format to 20 company presentations. So we revisited our agenda, cut out a number of content panels and determined that we could successfully break 40 companies at the conference and

TPN’s Tech Conference Show To Cover TechCrunch20

Part of September’s trip to the USA will include a bundle of coverage of the TechCrunch20 Conference. With 20 ‘new ideas’ on show, the stated aim of Jason Calacanis and Michael Arrington is to provide the best new business ideas a platform to demo themselves, their products, and vision. The content looks like it will make for a great mix of traditional conferencing, discussion, and roadshow presentation, and for me that can only mean one thing. Time to break open the microphone! Given that the show is over two days (compared to four days for Etech, 11 days for SXSW
