Isn’t this logo the greatest? Vikki made it up for the OPL Webring, which needs set up shortly. There’s still so much to do with OPL before it can become the third (second?) language on Symbian OS Smartphones, but the last week has seen a lot of major steps.
So, I’ve recieved a mysterious parcel from Munich with a Series 60 device that looks remarkably like an SX-1. And my two intial thoughts are this. It still looks like a CyberMat from Tomb of the Cybermen. Jeff Bridges could have had one of these in Tron. Im just waiting now for the David Warner limited edition red SX-2…
After many a long night testing the runtime, and putting a whole bundle of documents in place on the web, OPL for Series 60 has been released. Version 0.30 adds menu support. 7.0s support, FEP interaction (finally!) and a lot of under the hood changes. The documentation site is now up and running (visit the OPL Wiki), and you’ll all want to look at the Getting Started page. And browse the rest of the site of course! 09.00, Symbian Keynote Very nice keynote, covering all the bases of Symbian OS. From my point of view, a few things leaped out. Firstly, the delightful introduction video… Was that really Paul McGann doing a voiceover? to Symbian’s attempt at a Japanese anime influenced trailer for Symbian. It’s corporate, it’s buzzwords, it’s… a bit bland. Stop relying on cliches. Of course it throws up this interesting quote: “Any intelligent fool can make something bigger and more complicated.” I wonder who they are refering too? The other point that was noticable was that Symbian OS is “complicated.” David Wood pointed out
