But, as with any arts venture and any entrepreneurial effort, the realistic odds are that you’ll be one of the people whose efforts fail to shake the world. The realistic odds are that you’ll earn more working a regular job in an office than you will trying to invent fictional worlds and then invent new ways of selling them. There’s only one good reason to do that kind of thing: because it makes you sane and whole and happy.
Yeah, why indeed? Why do a startup, most of them fail. Why be an artist, you wont’ get gallery representation. Why start a blog, almost all have no readers. Why do anything, because the odds are you fail to shake the world.
Christ, why don’t we all just go back to bed and cut our wrists?
Ivan. I love that I can read this with both an ironic voice, or a big serious voice, and the sentiment is 180 degrees opposite to the other tone of voice. Although if this blog and my stuff online is meant to make me sane… ;-)
