Why Nokia seeding app store numbers with developer commissions is a good idea
Nokia shoring up their app numbers by comissioning 300 applications from a North American developer? Seems like a smart investment to me.
The circle of life in an app store needs a virtuou circle of make apps, get them to users, get income, make more apps. For new developers to come on board, they need to be comfortable that the get income bit is going to work. So Nokia kicking off the process by putting apps in the store seems a good use of money. Choose another 20-30 developers and offer them a nice advance on some new apps so they have at least that to fall back on, and you can catalyse the process.
How much of an advance would be needed for a developer to port over some key apps (such as Gravity) to Windows Phone?
