Akoha is moving quietly and with dignity into the 2.0 Sunset
Two years ago I was handed a card by Dave Delaney that was marked "invite someone for drinks" and said I should log on to the website, say that I had the card, and then pass it on by inviting someone for a drink.
That, in a nutshell, was Akoha – a game with the lofty goal of rewarding people for doing nice things. It moved away from being a physical deck of cards, to an online game, to a smartphone based system… but after three years it might have caught the imagination, but not the revenue.
In the fall of 2007 we set out to create a new type of community to highlight fun, real-world activities that would help people explore and enjoy life to the fullest. From all the amazing missions that the Akoha community has played over the past 3 years we feel comfortable in saying that we were able to reach that goal.
Unfortunately and despite our best efforts, we weren’t able to generate enough revenue to cover our expenses so we’re left with no other choice but to close the site.
Dignified, honest, and providing the users with an export option for the next two weeks. Even in the epilogue, Akoha shows their class.

Dear Ewan,
Many thanks for your kind “eulogy” for Akoha. Our blog post to users was authentic and heartfelt – we’ve become close with many of our community members and we’ll really miss connecting with them on a regular basis.
Despite Akoha’s early demise, we still believe that there are ways to integrate doing good, technology and games and we hope that others will build on what we started. We’re looking forward to seeing what other people dream up in the near future.
Thanks again for the support!
best wishes,
Alex and the Akoha Team
We had an inspiring community of people who shared positive energy into the world. It was great to meet each and every Akohan— including you, Ewan :)
I think new opportunities will crop up in the future because people inherently want to do good and make a difference in this world, and there are ways that technology can help make this happen. It’s a belief I still share to this day.
Thanks for the memories, Akoha!

OK, Here a good news. Some crazy Akohan’s who are crazy about Akoha and love the Akoha community creates a new site- wwww.akohans.wall.fm .
We create the site after a yahoo group discussion. Our new mission is “The Spirit of Akoha Shall Live On”
Yes, this is our new mission. Akoha can’t stop here. We will take forward this journey in the future.
Thank’s to Alex and Austin (who created Akoha) for supporting us. Also Thanks to them for such a wonderful website-Akoha! Best of luck for their future project.
