The Chinese Android is not Android

Interesting rumour coming out of China: Baidu is using Android as a base to build its own mobile operating system code named Qiushi

The point is not that they are using Android, the point is that it’s unlikely they’ll use all the "interesting" Google bits that make Android, Android in the eye of the consumer. Which you can’t use as a manufacturer without ceding all your customers to Google. Once you bring Google into your smartphone factory, Mountain View have lock-in on you, and start building their own relationship with your customers. So you go it alone, without the added extras, and hope you can be attractive enough in the market. Or go somewhere else.

Which I suspect is ultimately why Nokia felt bargaining with Microsoft was a better choice.
