It\u2019s a section of an <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/entertainment\/8347178.stm\">opinion piece for BBC News<\/a> by John Taylor (kids, he was in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duran_Duran\">Duran Duran<\/a>) makes this observation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m still buying copies of that first Roxy Music album, I&#8217;m almost embarrassed to say &#8211; import copies on premium vinyl, anniversary CD copies, Japanese imports with paper sleeves, iTunes downloads when I&#8217;m on the road and need a fix. Such was the power of that initial strike.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The choice of words, namely <strong>fix<\/strong> and <strong>initial strike<\/strong> bring visions of very addictive drugs to mind. Think of the dire warnings that go along with cocaine, cake, speed, clarky-clark, cannabis or heroin.<\/p>\n<p>Now think about the power of songs like <em>Knockin\u2019 on Heaven\u2019s Door<\/em>, <em>Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds<\/em>, <em>Ebeneezer Goode<\/em> or, err, <em>Heroin<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>And \u2018the industry\u2019 makes sure we keep paying over and over again to keep getting our hit of the hits.<\/p>\n<p>Hmmm\u2026 anyone care to cue up The Verve singing \u201c<em>The Drugs Don\u2019t Work<\/em>\u201d?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px\" height=\"297\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ewanspence.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image87.png\" width=\"445\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spotted this as I bounced around the web this morning.
