On the card was a mission – “Invite Someone for Drinks.”

So Dave scores karma points on the Akoha website, and I also score points for being involved in a mission (assuming that I join Akoha and punch in the unique ID number on the card). And then you can both play that card on to someone else (and gain more karma), and also order a full deck of mission cards – always nice to see a start-up that has revenue streams straight out the door, even if it is just at cost.

You can find out about just this card and where’ it’s been on the Akoha website.

It’s very much an RPG style gathering of experience points, but in the real world (and yes, it gets magnified as levelling up is in there as well). What I really like is that this basic structure, which has proven time and time again to enhance RPG games and their playability, has been added to a range of missions that can easily be described as “be nice to each other.”

So we have a Web 2.0 style social network, plus a trading card game, plus the whole be nice to the rest of the world. plus the ability to share these stories online (which feeds back into the social network, and thus we have a virtuous cycle).

I love it.

And if you want to know more, I caught up with co-founder Austin Hill when I was in San Francisco last month.
