It should be a sensible decision, choosing the right tool for the job. But sometimes choosing that right tool is something that breaks an unwritten rule or a promise a person has made to themselves or a company has in their corporate handbook.<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s look first of all at the big corporate snafu over the last few days. Microsoft releasing a public beta of Windows 7. That\u2019s actually a good thing, but how they did it was a mistake. A big massive file, that everyone wanted? It\u2019s a perfect use case of BitTorrent.<\/p>\n

Except, for reasons to be discussed<\/a>, the Seattle based company didn\u2019t use the mechanism. Didn\u2019t stop the rest of the internet routing round the problem and seeding it themselves<\/a>. Be nice if they learned from past mistakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Many people have a natural aversion to Windows, for whatever reason, but I want to flag up one bit of software that, no matter your feelings, you should have a look at\u2026. their blog editing tool Windows Live Writer<\/a>. I\u2019ve been using it now since the start of the year, and it\u2019s a revelation in terms of ease of use, switching between blogs, and more importantly reduces the barriers between \u201cthoughts in head\u201d to \u201cposted on a blog.\u201d<\/p>\n
