Taking All About Symbian into Top Gear

One of the most well received projects in the demo area of the S60 Summit at Barcelona this week was Shaker Racer – a radio controlled truck using not the regular RC sticks, but the accelerometers in a Blue-tooth-connected S60 handset. I had to find out more, in a special video report for All About Symbian. The truck has been around a number of Nokia events, including the recent “See Into S60” days and the San Francisco Web 2.0 Expo, and is a great demo of how the new sensors on smartphones can interact with the world. Top Five Mobile Video Publishing Tools

I’ve posted a look at some of the sites that allow video to be posted from your mobile to the web over on All About Symbian. Here’s a quick taster of what I cover in the article. From the streaming side of things there is… Qik (www.qik.com) “Look for Qik to continue to iron out bugs and open up for unfettered access at some point later this year. For all the buzz, it is one of the most polished options so far.” Flixwagon (www.flixwagon.com) “The early adopter nature of video streaming means that there are not a huge number of

Flickr Video – Mobile Upload Test

Been looking at a number of video services online for some articles in the last few days, and one of those has been the new video service that Flickr offers. I can see why the 90 second videos would be regarded as long pictures, and while I’m still a touch unsure on how much of a good idea it is, there’s still no harm in kicking the tyres to make sure I can upload a video from my mobile directly into Flickr. Interestingly, in the RSS feed that powers my sidebar Flickr Widget, the video appears as if it was

Microsoft Vista Rocking Video and Spitting Image’s RS232 Interface Lead

A number of sites picked it up, and probably called it correctly as Epic Fail (for example Matthew Ingram’s “Suuuuure it is, whatever makes you guys feel better. I suppose all of these incredible lame videos were in jokes too, right?”). You see, things are funny when the viewer knows they are meant to be funny. There are lots of funny songs about computers and technology – if this had been published by DogHorse, and pushed by B3ta, we’d all be happy with it. After all, Spitting Image managed to rack up a love song to the RS-232 Interface Cable..

Flickring at 25fps – Video Crashes the Still Party

Techcrunch is reporting (and demoing) Flickr Video. Short summary; Pro users have the ability to upload a video into their account, as long as they are under 90 seconds and 150 mb. I’ve not played around with it yet, but I’m skeptical that the Flickr community actually want this. I have to assume the Flickr team has thought (and fought?) long and hard over this one. The explosion of mobile video in the last six months (Seesmic, Qik, Bambuser, etc) must have focused them on the task at hand, but if they have been plannig this for a while (as
