Are Spoiler Tags Needed for Twitter?

NB This post is spoiler free. Inside twitter, we already have (@) for replies and (#) or topics, do we need ($) for TV spoilers? I ask this question after a weekend where the second I breathed that I was watching either Doctor Who (in the UK, thus I can watch live) or Battlestar Galactica (at some point let me sit you down to talk about how Rapidshare is far far faster than BitTorrent…). Instantly the twitter’s came back. “Don’t say anything,” “Shut up please,” “La la la, I’m not listening” and so on. Firstly, and this is important on

Twitter Japan Is Here, as is Twitter Monetisation

Congrats to Joi Ito and the team at Digital Garage on the launch of Twitter Japan. While it’s still part of the core Twitter group (i.e. it is not a separate island of users), the nationalised interface should provide a much easier Twittering experience compared to the hoops that people went through at launch. I also never knew that Tokyo is the world’s most Twitterable city (made up word alert!). But what caught my eye is Toyota, or specifically the advert for Toyota in the top corner of the web interface (which leads to Toyota’s Twitter account, not a Toyota

Daffy Duck says Today is Twitter Cartoon Day

Apparantly today is going to be Twitter Cartoon Day, with the rather splendidly simple idea of changing your avatar over to your favourite cartoon character. Would there be any doubt that I would go for the enternally optimistic, full of wacky ideas, Daffy Duck? I find it interesting that Twitter is a place where the altering of avatars is seen as another way to communicate. The Colour Wars (which not surprisingly has fizzled into a tight clique somewhere over there….) was one of the most obvious, but the recent ‘birthday present’ to Chris Brogan of having all his friends turn

In The Online Twitter/FriendFeed Widget War, Only The Users Win

Perfect – Twhirl (from Seesmic) has decided to add in FriendFeed features, and Alert Thingy (Howard/Baines)has integrated Twitter. Two applciations, looking to be the best, are going to deliver the best possible value… to the user. There’s nothing like an arms race to drive innovation. One of them adds a feature, the other follows, and then adds another edge, which gets replicated and trumped, and so on. Love it! So let’s wind back just a touch to what these bits of software are. They both look at two online web services, Twitter (the short message based group conversation) and FriendFeed

Twitter For Sale on Ebay: One Careful User Only

Andrew Baron has decided to sell his Twitter account to the highest bidder (hat tip to Chris Brogan for the info). On offer through Ebay are his account, login and his 1387 followers. Bidding is currently just under $500, which works out at around 30 cents (14p) per user. Baron’s Ebay Auction Now, putting aside the person doing the actual selling (Baron has history as the founder of Rocketboom, amongst other things), is this an approach that’s going to be worthwhile long term? I don’t think so. Even though the metrics are going to be discussed in a similar vein
