Android Tablets as AOL CDs

Classy footnote from Marco Armenti, as the ‘high sales / low use’ questions around Android tablets continue: I offered to give my Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire to Betaworks in the Instapaper acquisition, but they had so many of both sitting around already that they declined. Tech companies with mobile apps can practically tile walls with outdated Android devices. They’re the new AOL CDs.

When the dead (devices) outweigh the living (devices)

There will be more internet-connected mobile devices such as smartphones and 3G tablets than people in the world before the end of the year, according to new research. I don’t think that research is comparing apples with oranges. How many unused smartphones and tablets are lying in dusty drawers were counted in this survey? If we’re going to say they outnumber humans, surely we should be counting corpses as well?
