Turns out that the CGI in ‘Interstellar’ and the ray tracing software of the black hole, actually confirmed theories about gravity. In the end, Nolan got elegant images that advance the story. Thorne got a movie that teaches a mass audience some real, accurate science. But he also got something he didn’t expect: a scientific discovery. “This is our observational data,” he says of the movie’s visualizations. “That’s the way nature behaves. Period.” Thorne says he can get at least two published articles out of it. Remind me again how accurate Sandra Bullock’s Gravity was?

When Baseball speaks the truth about God and Science

Who would have thought that the one phrase to stick with me on New Year’s Day would be on the moral implications of God and Science as seen through the prisim of the MLB Hall of Fame vote? No doubt, there is a little bit of projection going on; some writers harbor a bit of self-loathing at having been duped into mythologizing players who now appears to have been blessed more by science than by God (unless you attribute science to God, but we’ll save that discussion for another day). That’s a kicker on third base right there…
