The £80 Android Tablet

The Nook HD, now available for just £79 for 8GB in the UK, is a nice piece of kit. It’s not cutting edge, but it does the job, its comfortable to read on for long periods, and with the inclusion go Google Play, you can be sneaky and install the Kindle app if you’re locked in to Bezos’ ecosystem. I would love to read the books of Hugh Walters again – a science fiction writer I remember reading when I eight or nine years old. Unfortunately I have only two books on my shelf, and to buy any others I would be looking at hundreds of pounds because they are out of print and not in favour with anyone. You’d think with Kindle and eBooks this would be easily solved but no. The second class Kindles arrive in the UK

Amazon’s Android offshoot, the Kindle Fire debuted in the US this week. Not surprisingly, the big-ticket items such as the 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD, and the bundled version with 4G LTE support will stay inside US borders, but we are getting the ‘improved’ Kindle Fire and the 7″ Kindle Fire HD… By getting I mean everyone places their order now, and delivery will be made on October 25th, which gives Amazon enough lead time to build as many that are needed and not have to worry about a warehouse full of Kindles sitting around doing nothing.
