The real secret of the new ‘The X-Files‘ series is not that it’s a special event, not that it’s a limited run, it’s just that ‘The X-Files‘ is ahead of its time (again) and decided that the UK model of six-episode seasons is the best way forwards. Of course that’s not mentioned in The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Oral History’ of the revived series, but it’s still a great weekend read on the world of television. Some thoughts on Dollhouse and Joss Whedon

So Dollhouse is over, and there are sure to be papers, studies and exploration about why the show lasted just the two seasons. Was it the scheduling on a Friday night, the interference in the first batch of episodes by the Fox network, the lack of a character for the audience to identify with, the initial presentation of the subject matter… The discussions will continue, but when you break it down, Dollhouse had five different sections, each with faults and weaknesses. I’m continually amazed by the interviewing conducted by US media in ‘hard-hitting’ interviews, so much so that on seeing the clip below, I thought that finally something was going right with the US news channels. Turns out this was an isolated case, and that the McCain campaign has now pulled out of doing an interview with Larry King becase “The McCain campaign said it believed that exchange was over the line and as a result the interview scheduled for Larry King Live with Sen.
